After years of scoffing the men in spandex biking around suburbia, I have joined their legions. I purchased a 2005 Fuji Newest road bike this weekend, with the assistance of my seasoned cyclist-friend, Deb. I bought shimano spd pedals and the most garish shoes I could find. It’s a terrifying and exhilarating experience to be physically connected to a bike. I look forward to many bike excursions through Maryland and Virginia. But for the moment, I’m going to stick to a three block radius. I need to work on the whole “not falling off the bike, especially in front of pedestrians and people in cars.”
